Late talkers are often a source of anxiety for par Late talkers are often a source of anxiety for parents, but being late to the first word party doesn’t necessarily mean ongoing language struggles. A more telling situation is a child who doesn’t start combining words when we expect them to.

Early intervention can look a lot of different ways and is very effective! Let me know if you have questions.

So here’s a rather unpopular opinion. When it co So here’s a rather unpopular opinion. When it comes to giving up an office supply in the speech room, I’d forgo crayons. It’s not that I don’t like them. Actually I find all those brand new points and new crayon smell rather heady. But they’re SO SLOW. Even if I have a group and I need to keep hands busy, I’d rather work with scissors and glue sticks to we can keep it moving people. Coloring is what I send as a home activity.

P.S. Daubers are a totally different story. The kids love the novelty and I like the speed.

Let’s hear it! If you had to give up an office/art supply in your room what would be the first to go?
Sharks aren’t my favorite sea creature. Can you Sharks aren’t my favorite sea creature. Can you guess what is? Jellyfish! But I’m in a distinct minority with my littles who love baby shark, mama shark and all the “dangerous” sharks. This snapping shark was an across-the-board favorite!

The snapping toys are funny to me because so many little ones love to see it snap, but are also terrified by the snap. Which really means they like to see me get snapped 😉 Actually, once I show them we can push the teeth down with something other than our finger (a toy pizza slice was the usual suspect) they loved the jump scare 🍕

I had an ocean/beach theme going for a few weeks this summer. If summer speech isn’t you, go ahead and save this so you have it to round out a pirate theme next month ⭐️ It links to ALL the activities and free lesson plan.

And let me know if you’re team shark or something else.
Back-to-school counts as a season right? So the fi Back-to-school counts as a season right? So the first day of school is the holiday?

I’ve always loved the new supplies and the fresh hopefulness of the BTS season, but getting everyone back into the school routine (me included) is EX.HAUST.ING. As an SLP, we don’t get class lists on day one. We’re building a list and sorting out all the new and old faces and revising schedules well into fall.

Our first day is August 17—one week away! When’s yours?
Yum! The little ice cream truck rolled into town d Yum! The little ice cream truck rolled into town delivering treats at the zoo, park, birthday party and baseball game.

The Fisher Price Little People truck and a bag of mini erasers helped us act out all the scenes. The illustrations in this book are ADORABLE and filled with a variety of people and animals that you can use to target a wide range of speech and language goals.

My littles loved all the ice cream themed fun we did this summer, but you can use these to kick off the year, for field and spirit days or as a birthday celebration!

More tips in my recent blog post 🍦

What’s your favorite ice cream truck order? I always liked those chocolate eclairs.
